In recent years there has emerged a significant increase of interest in the design of blended wing body (BWB) aircraft, specifically applied to large commercial transport aircraft. The BWB design has been proven to have significant improvements in aerodynamic efficiency, as compared to the conventional wing fuselage design.

However, due to inability to counteract significant pitching moments there is difficulty in the design of high lift devices for BWB, especially trailing edge devices.
